Golden Goal in Extra time
having finished the regular season with a strong win and secured 2nd spot on the ladder - Dunbar came into this top of table clash with much anticipation. We lined up with Quinny in goals, AJ, Phil B & Tim @ the back. In the midfield we had GB, Phil M, Hodgo, Matt e & Mads and upfront Adrian & Steve Mc. On the bench we had Joe, Matt L, Adrian, Haysey.
Both first and second half were evenly contested, with very little in the way of 'clear cut chances' for either side. Our forwards (Andy, Adrian & Steve Mc) worked hard upfront, the midfield toiled in the centre and the defence was solid as ever. Goaless after 90 mins the match moved into golden goal extra time. It took only 60 seconds for Dunbar to break the dead lock, Andy latched onto a through ball on the right hand side and shot towards the keeper's opposite corner. Although the keeper got down to save, he spilled the ball and Mads was on hand to smash it into the back of the net !
It's difficult to single out any one performance in this match, because it was the team effort that got us over the line. Everyone worked hard to close down the opposition, break up their play and not let them settle. It's important that with a week off we maintain our focus and bring the same intensity to the next match (whoever we play)
