So that’s how it’s done…cool as a cucumber and only on the field for about 30 minutes overall, Sandra secured the first hat trick of the season and the third win in a row for Dunbar.

With some players away Dunbar lined out differently this week having four through the middle and two up front. It took a while to adjust as Maroubra seemed to outnumber us through the centre and Dunbar’s defense had quite a bit to do in the opening quarter. Elaine excelled and Sarah was ever so dominant sweeping up the loose ball and her lengthy clearances set up Sandra for her first 2 goals; her first coming after about 15 minutes where she ran at the goals, drew the keeper out and sweetly passed the ball into the bottom left corner of the net. The second came shortly after and found the right side of the net this time following some fancy footwork and a run in from the left. Not really giving Dunbar time to relax Maroubra kept up the intensity and the ball exchanged ends quite often with Dunbar having the most shots on goal and Annabel was next to score; with blistering speed she left the defenders for dead, dribbled towards goal, and even though the keeper got a touch to it, it was such a blaster there was nothing going to deny her first goal of the league season. Most games at this stage would be done and dusted however Maroubra kept up the intensity and continued to frustrate and spread out Dunbar’s defense and just before half time they scored a fantastic free kick, which gave Mel no chance under the 6 inch too high cross bar.

The score remained as this well into the second half and it was Maroubra that seemed the next likely to score. They placed themselves well, managed to draw Dunbar's defense out wide and then distribute the ball through the centre. It worked up to a point but not much got past Lisa and Sarah with some clever passing back for Mel to clear. One of Maroubra’s free kicks hit the top of the cross bar and out before Sandra began the Dunbar resurgence. On another run in form the left Sandra rounded a number of players and with apparent ease slotted in her third. From this Dunbar found form and kept the Maroubra keeper busy and to her credit made some quality saves given the amount of ball that came her way. It kept their fighting spirit alive and it seemed like ball possession was fifty-fifty however they could not break through and with about 10 minutes to go Dunbar got three goals. Annabel scored a cracker from out on the right, Cat got an excellent rebound tap in and Heather did what Dave has been asking of us and shot from distance to get our lucky number seven.

Dunbar squad: Mel Rowley, Elaine Oliver, Sarah Ferris, Marie O'Looney, Lisa Styrud, Chelsea Wallis, Nina Malmstrom (captain), Rachel Donnelly, Heather Scott, Annabel Kingsford, Sandra Stavrou, Kastelle Adamson and Catherine Hooper.
