| What if? |
If the competition was to have only run for one round from game ten, the table would look something like this======> (See picture)
As you can see, only three teams have a positive goal difference for the second half of the comp, with every team except for Dunbar & Redfern conceding around two goals a game. Olympic Eagles have only managed to score two more goals than they have conceded. The above table tells us that there are two teams that have continued to improve throughout the season, and they could play each other three times in the next four weeks.
Sadly Syd Uni, bowed out of the fight for 4th place on the weekend, going down to QPR. So it is we come down to the final game of the season to see who will round out the final four. Coogee only need a draw against a Glebe team who have amassed 2 points from a possible 21 in the second round. QPR have the unenviable task of having to beat Olympic eagles
The last round of the regular season for AA4 looks as follows:
Glebe 0 v Syd U 2 – The kids round out the season in a very impressive 6th place having the 3rd worst defence in the league. For Glebe a very disappointing campaign, they’ll want to go away and look at what happened to their early season form, was the penalty miss against Dunbar in round 7 the catalyst for their slump?
Pagewood 1 v Barnstoneworth 1 –Pagewood who apparently were unlucky against Olympic at the weekend, again will struggle for players, Pagewood will get their weekly goal, but the defence also loves to let at least one in, this week they’ll earn a draw.
Coogee 2 v Mascot 0 – Poor Mascot, they have a terrible defensive record, and an atrocious attacking record, last time they met, Coogee put 10 past them, this can only go one way, Coogee to make up the four.
QPR 0 v Olympic 3 – Some may remember this fixture from round one as the game that changed the complexion of AA4. At the time Olympic Eagles had won 7 drawn 2 lost 0, that was until they came up against QPR. QPR’s win allowed Redfern to slip past Olympic, which Dunbar also did 2 weeks later. I’m giving this game to Olympic based solely on QPR’s awful home form, 1 win 7 losses at home scoring only 4 goals.
Dunbar 2 v Redfern 2 – What can you say about this tasty little fixture, the two best teams all year face off on the last week of the regular season. this should be a hotly contested affair. Dunbar, who are better on the road than at home, play host to a Redfern team who score four times more goals than they concede on the road and have won the last 14 games in a row. With nothing to play for except bragging rights heading into the finals, I see this being a fairly tight affair.
Let football be your guiding light.
