Dunbar Rovers Football Club
Mama mia, that’s a spicy meatball….
  BACK
Though I still think the top four will remain as they are, I’m adding Sydney Uni back to the mix this week, just for their sheer tenacity, I mean it was only 5 weeks ago they were sitting last in the table, three wins and one draw in the last four have seen them climb to 6th spot. Chances of making it 1%, but I like their late showing of heart. Three weeks to go, remaining fixtures, with last 4 fixtures form guide are

Redfern (QPR, Glebe, Dunbar) 4 Wins
Dunbar (Glebe, Mascot, Redfern) 4 Wins
Olympic (Coogee, Pagewood, QPR) 3 Wins 1 Loss
Coogee (Olympic, Barnstoneworth, Mascot) 1 Win, 1 Draw, 2 Losses
QPR (Redfern, Syd Uni, Olympic) 1 Win, 1 Draw, 2 Losses
Syd U (Pagewood, QPR, Glebe) 3 Wins, 1 Draw

One thing is for sure I wouldn’t want Queens Parks run in, but Coogee losing to the kids from Syd Uni on the weekend, really makes the proposition of 4th spot enticing. Of course this means that the top three teams have now qualified for the finals, with Dunbar needing 6 points to secure second and likewise for Redfern to secure 1st spot…. If either of the top two drop points in the coming two weeks that fixture on the last day of the season will be worth the admission price.

Let’s look to this weeks games:

(Sat) Mascot 0 v Glebe 1 – Such a massive game, this could well decide the relegation battle for the year. It’s going to be anything but a high scoring affair as Mascot have only scored 6 goals at home all year, but Glebe have only scored 4 goals on the road, in the end I think Glebe’s better defensive record will see Glebe open up a buffer from the bottom of the table.

Mascot 1 v Barnstoneworth 3 – Bad weekend for Mascot, two home games two losses, time to start looking for a new manager, and start thinking about how to take hold of AA5 next year.

Glebe 0 v Dunbar 2 – two games in two days, well the boys from Glebe are young enough, but confidence is low after a long season, & Dunbar are miserly on the road conceding 7 in 6 games.

QPR 0 v Redfern 5 – Tasty little fixture depending on which Queens Park team takes the field, could it be the team that lost to Mascot, or is it the team that beat Olympic…. and with Redfern winning their last 12 in a row, will it matter? Well QPR at home are awful scoring just 3 goals in 7 games, Redfern march on….

Coogee 1 v Olympic 1 – my o my, what an important game this one is for the finals series…. Coogee need to win to get their buffer back over QPR, and Olympic need to win to maintain their chances of finishing second. Coogee are better at home, apart from their poor scoring record (9 goals from 7 games), and Olympic appear to have found their scoring boots scoring 11 goals in the last two games. To tight to call, points shared (hopefully)

Pagewood 2 v Syd Uni 1 – Just as school holidays are about to come to an end, so to are the dreams of the kids from Sydney uni…. A Pagewood team that is full of new faces every time I see them will be big enough and strong enough to take the points and move them safely away from the bottom of the table.

Let football be your guiding light.
