Good First Reg win for the 7ths
  BACK
A stormy Saturday night meant only one thing - the belief that the Reg groundsman would be protecting his precious wicket on Sunday, so you may as well have a few more beers for the road. However thankfully the 9am kick off went ahead, we managed to get a full side together and Dunbar 7ths got to play their first home game at the Reg against a struggling Mascot Kings. To be honest it’s understandable why they are struggling when they send what seemed to be a netball team to a football match. Unable to take a tackle or keep their mouths shut, Mascot Kings spent 80 minutes playing more like Princesses. Whilst frustrating for Dunbar, in between the handbags at ten paces we played some great football and were unlucky not to reach a cricket score by the final whistle. Some disappointing finishing and being caught offside more times than Julio Iglesias meant we had to unfortunately settle for 3 – 0.

Dunbar started strong and after a lot of pressure, Anthony Filby finally opened the scoring christening his new shiny white boots by bringing down a cross and smashing it firmly into the back of the net – money well spent. Dunbar continued to squander chance after chance and the only sniff Mascot were getting was the fresh Rushcutters sea breeze, or perhaps that was Bowden’s arse who had nothing to do behind the sticks for apart from make sure the Sunseeker he cruised in on from Parramatta was still in the Bay. Thankfully Jean ‘Le Petit Pois’ Paul, who ran the midfield, finally stuck in the second and was unlucky not to score a screamer of a third that the keeper tipped on to the cross bar. Finishing the first half two up certainly flattered Mascot but it was a satisfactory start to the day at the office.

The second half nearly turned into a riot as Mascot struggled to keep up with the game and resorted to what can only be described as a ‘continental’ approach to the game, trying to wind up Dunbar and fool the Ref. Not used to the large Reg Oval pitch Dunbar started to flag a bit and missed a few chances only for JD to redeem himself for hitting the corner flag from 6 yards by placing it firmly passed their tourettes suffering keeper from outside the box after a great run.

JP failed to make it four from the spot after being bought down in the box before Bowden nearly returned the favour by allegedly clothes lining a Mascot player who managed to get through a solid defence on the break. Thankfully Brett (You know, the guy who got injured in the second game and hasn’t played since) came down and ran the line failed to see any contact.

Well done Dunbar for a solid all round performance and now look forward to a double header next weekend that could see us meteorically rise up the table or disappear into mid table mediocrity.
